About the Club |
Cliff Thomas (Chairman), James Gebbie (Accountant, Webmaster) and Perry Palmer (Secretary) founded the club, formed to develop grassroots potential. It aims to progress missed potential from academies and schools of excellence into league and non-league scenes. After much consideration, it was decided to enter the club into the Blades Super Draw League that has office at Bramall Lane home of Sheffield United FC. All three men that founded FC Brimington are local to Brimington Common, which is the origin of the team name. They are all excited to see what the formation of this club will bring. |

Cliff Thomas Cliff spent many years involved in playing and coaching football at a high standard leading him to gain knowledge by acquiring the FA qualifications necessary. His ambition was to be an FA pro-license holder and EUFA license holder. Cliff is currently working towards his FA Level 2 & EUFA B Part 1 qualifications. Cliff has previously coached at Kimberley Town, a non-league football club based in Nottingham and playing in the Central Midlands League. Another team Cliff has coached in the past is Handleywood under 16s, who, because of his work, won the league. They lost only two games all season and conceded just 17 goals with nine clean sheets in the Sheffield & Hallamshire league. Cliff is currently coaching the Sheffield University Men’s football team who have won the league twice and been runner up once in three seasons, as well as a cup final appearance last season. Cliff realised there was a great deal of talent leaving football at 16 believing there was no opportunity to progress any further if they hadn’t already been spotted by an academy. Having being inspired by his visit to Barcelona’s Nou Camp Stadium to see FC Barcelona’s impressive trophy hall the previous year, he decided this season he would begin to set up a club which would be an inspiration to grassroots football and also another route for missed talent to have another opportunity to be seen. He works very closely with FA A license holder Peter Cooper and coach the Sheffield University Men’s football team together. Peter Cooper currently coaches the Nottingham Forest Academy and in the past has coached such academies as Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley. The work of Peter has had a profound effect on Cliff who has continuously strived to improve his own knowledge of the beautiful game. James Gebbie James has played football for over 10 years at different levels. He now feels that he has enough experience to move onto the logistics of running and maintaining a football club. He has previous experience in setting up and running a club (Miners FC Chesterfield Sunday League Div 4). James has learnt a lot from Cliff Thomas in the past and has enjoyed playing in teams coached by Cliff. Cliff approached James in January 2007 with the idea of creating FC Brimington together as they both shared similar enthusiasm for football and its workings. James, also a student at the University of Manchester, has a vast technical knowledge base and was therefore given the role of bringing technology into an already lucrative venture. Technology has allowed us to become much more organised in the way information is stored and sent to officials, it has also provided a new way for the club to market itself in the initial launch. This gave the club more options for potential sponsors to have web coverage. James has also been involved in delivering fitness sessions to the FC Brimington squad, which he hopes will become more football related with the help of Cliff. He is very excited about being given this opportunity to serve grassroots sport with some of the most experienced coaching staff in the area. Perry Palmer Perry has had a lot of experience in the dealings of the day-to-day running of sports clubs, his previous involvements being in large table tennis clubs. The table tennis clubs have benefited by being run by Perry, in both organisation and the way they have attracted lucrative grants. Cliff also approached Perry with the idea of becoming the secretary for FC Brimington. Perry induces organisation in the way information is rapidly communicated between the league officials and the club staff. He will also be involved in the maintenance of healthy finances by using his experience of acquiring grants that the club will become eligible for in the future.
