Managers View

The weather was good today with sun shine and a refreshing autumn breeze. The ground was soft but not overly. We knew this game was winnable having played Mosborough in pre season here and won 3-2. Belief was rife throughout the squad but two games are rarely the same was the warning. Remembrance Day is not one we will want to recall often from the depths of our mines.

First Half

The game kicked off at 11.02am . After a minutes silence was adhered to, it could not have started any worse for FCB with Mosborough starting with more urgency and forcing a corner within a 2 minutes of the start. The corner was swung into the 6yds box FCB keeper Simon Newton decided to come for the cross but misjudged the flight and the ball went straight behind to the startled Ben Leversidge who just reacted by lashing at the ball but unfortunately into his own net. 0-1 Mosborough. There was an overwhelming feeling that this may not be our day but we focused on getting back on level term as quick as possible . Mosborough continue to press every loose ball and are definitely playing the better football , FCB just seemed shell shocked from the bad start and was finding it hard to come to terms being 1-0 down . Mosborough win another corner on 15 mins and again the ball is delivered in perfectly Mosborough heads but is saved and the subsequent ball was put back in for the Mosborough striker to score but he was in an offside position has he did not come out with the initial clearance. FCB started to find their passing game and soon started to forage in the Mosborough half of the field. FCB became more offensive and started to keep the ball for long periods at about 27mins into the game we are awarded a free-kick in our own half , Dave Simpson takes the kick  and delivers straight into the box bathy comes to gather the ball but is brought down when he takes the ball way from the defender the referee awards a penalty. Matt collier takes the penalty with precision and the scores are level 1-1. Numerous opportunities arose for the remainder of the 1st half but at the interval 1-1.

Second Half

2nd half FCB start the game looking to improve on the last 20 mins of the 1st half FCB soon get into the passing triangles which gave us a lot of possession after half time a substitution after half time had to be made as Hirons sustained an injury to his ankle James Towers replaced him at centre half . Gartlan makes a run from 30yds out beating 3 players then he crossed the ball from the left and Connor received and shot over the bar. Christie also shoots wide some minutes later FCB are now starting to dominate the match and are looking for the opening to get that goal. Bathy receives a throwin and creates a shooting chance but his shot is wide. Substitution 15 mins into the 2nd half Connor comes off and Wragg comes on in his place . then some 5 mins later Mosborough win a free-kick some 30yds out he hits the free-kick straight at our goal but the shot is under hit and Simon comes to claim without pressure unfortunately Simon like buzz light-year in toy story who believed he could fly and jump off the table well Simon did similar but when he was airborne with the ball in his hand he let it slip through his hands as he was about to land and the ball continued where he or the team did not expect it in the back of our net 1-2 Mosborough. I think the grim reaper was lurking in the trees as this was against the run of play. FCB did not sulk this time or let it affect the way we had been playing we went straight back at them from the restart  and within 3 minutes we had our rewards the captain Gartlan took it upon himself to rally the troops by running from 40yds out with the ball skipping pass one then two the three Mosborough players he entered the box and let fly his shot which was blocked by the out-coming keeper only for Gordan to smash in the rebound 2-2 FCB.

Numerous chances fell FCB ways has we tried to take the lead for the first time in this game. The team started to believe that we made our errors and now was the time to take control of this match. We pressed with efforts from matt , Christie bathy but the winner came with 3 minutes of normal time left when Leversidge put the ball out for a corner. I had a feeling that they might score has they only really threatened FCB with set pieces  throughout the game . the corner taken by Mosborough found the smallest player on the pitch unmarked and he took advantage 2-3 Mosborough. We knew there was no coming back from this with 2 mins left the team tried but we ran out of time. The dream of playing at Bramall Lane diminished.

Summary

FCB started badly and subsequently lost the match we deserved extra time and do believe we would have won the match had this had reached the 30 extra mins. Best wishes to Mosborough who themselves want to banish the misery of being beaten in the semi finals last year by going one further and reaching the finals this year. We now need to focus on the county cup and the league has we have played few games due to our cup runs.
